UK-China Business Summit solemnly opened in Beijing

On January 18th, “UK-China Business Summit - Partnership through Innovation” was solemnly held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown were present at the summit and delivered speeches. Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Cheng Siwei, Minister of Ministry of Commerce, Chen Deming, British Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform Minister, John Hutton, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Digby Jones attended the Summit. The summit was presided by Yu Guangzhou, the vice Minister of Ministry of Commerce, China.

After the summit, the representatives of enterprises from both sides held negotiations on six areas, they were financial and business services, creative industries and designs, engineering technology, environmental protection and energy technology, information and communication technology, software and telecommunications, and life sciences.

UK-China Business Summit was jointly hosted by the China's Ministry of Commerce and UK's Department for Business, Enterprises and Regulatory Reform (BERR) and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). It is the largest exchange activity with the highest level in UK-China economic and business sector in recent years. About 800 people from China and the United Kingdom government officials and enterprise representatives attended the summit. The Trade Development Bureau of China organized the summit.
