Chinese economy still in "green zone"
2008-07-04 source:CCTV.com
The National Bureau of Statistics released macro-economic figures for May on Tuesday, which indicate that China's economy is still in a safe and stable "green zone."

The figures show that national economic growth and social stability are better than expected, despite inflation and the effects of multiple natural disasters on the mainland -- especially the devastating Wenchuan earthquake in May.

The consumer price index climbed 7.7 percent year-on-year in May. Although it was lower than the 8.5 percent rise in April, a twelve-year record, it was still well above the government's 4.5 percent target. The report expects China's economy to grow by a solid 10 percent in 2008, the fastest of the major world economies.
